Muay Thai (Thai: มวยไทย, RTGS: Muai Thai, IPA: [mūɛj tʰāj]) is a combat sport from Thailandthat uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. It is similar to otherIndochinese kickboxing systems, namely pradal serey from Cambodia, tomoi from Malaysia, lethwei from Myanmar and muay Lao from Laos. Descended from muay boran, muay thai is Thailand's national sport.[1][2][3][4]
The word muay derives from the Sanskrit mavya which means "to bind together". Muay thai is referred to as the "Art of Eight Limbs" or the "Science of Eight Limbs" because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight "points of contact", as opposed to "two points" (fists) in boxing and "four points" (hands and feet) used in other more regulated combat sports, such as kickboxing, boxing, and savate
A few weeks ago, Braison started a Muay Thai class. He was shy at first, but then warmed up pretty quickly and has been enjoying himself. I only have a couple of cell phone photos, but I am sure I will have better photos soon.
This is one of Braison running across the chests of some of the older kids. It is teaching Braison balance and the older kids endurance.
We think this will be wonderful for him. And, Ron will be joining him soon. What a great way for males to bond :o)
